This Month Behind the Scenes

June has been a month of plotting and thinking for me. I’m working on a new novel, which means I have to think about who the characters are and what they’re going to do. It’s a bit like working on a puzzle, except there’s no box to look at to tell you what it’s going to look like when you’re done. But this is the part of writing I love most, because anything is possible. Dream big!

What I’m Reading Now

“Emma” by Jane Austen

I just read Emma by Jane Austen and wish I had read it before now. I certainly should have, but at least I got there. I guess it’s stating the obvious to say that it’s wonderful. But beyond the plot and Emma’s observations and the charms of Mr. Knightley, what I felt most strongly was how much I loved Jane Austen herself. Her voice comes through so clearly, warm and loving, and I’m very glad she’s in my world.
